Welcome to Kids StarQuest ("we," "our," or "us"). Kids StarQuest is a family task management and gamification app designed to help children build healthy daily habits in a fun, engaging way.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you and your family use our mobile application and related services. We take the privacy of children especially seriously and are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable privacy laws.

By using Kids StarQuest, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide the app's functionality. Here is what we collect:

• Account information: The parent or guardian's username, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash — we never store your plaintext password).
• Children's profile data: First name (or nickname) and an emoji avatar chosen for each child profile. We do not collect any identifying information about children such as full names, photos, or birthdays.
• Task and completion data: The tasks you create, your children's daily completions, star counts, and streak records.
• Reward data: The weekly reward options you configure and any rewards your children select.
• Session data: A secure authentication token stored locally on your device to keep you signed in. This token is not linked to any browsing data.

Kids StarQuest is designed to be used by parents and guardians on behalf of their children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13 without verifiable parental consent.

• All accounts must be registered by a parent or guardian who is 18 years of age or older.
• Children do not have their own accounts — they use the app through their parent's family account.
• Children's profile data (nickname and avatar) is entered by the parent and contains no personal identifiers.
• We do not display advertising to children or share children's data with third-party advertisers.
• We do not allow children to communicate with other users or share content publicly.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, please contact us immediately at the address below and we will delete that information promptly.

We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Kids StarQuest service:

• To create and manage your family account and child profiles.
• To save, display, and sync your task lists, completions, streaks, and progress data.
• To provide weekly and monthly progress reports within the app.
• To maintain your session so you remain signed in securely.
• To troubleshoot technical issues and improve app performance.

We do not use your information to send marketing emails, serve advertisements, profile users for third parties, or any purpose not directly related to operating the app.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information or your children's data with third parties for commercial purposes.

• Database hosting: Your data is stored in a secure PostgreSQL database hosted on Replit's infrastructure, subject to Replit's security standards.
• No analytics: We do not use third-party analytics SDKs (e.g. Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or Facebook SDK).
• No advertising networks: We do not integrate with any advertising networks.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety and rights of users.

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data from unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure:

• Passwords are hashed using a secure one-way algorithm before storage. We never store plaintext passwords.
• All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption).
• Authentication tokens are unique, randomly generated, and can be revoked by logging out.
• Your data is stored in a private database that is not publicly accessible.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active and in use by your family.

• You may delete individual child profiles, tasks, or rewards at any time from within the app.
• To request complete deletion of your account and all associated data (including all children's data), please contact us using the details below.
• Upon receiving a deletion request, we will permanently delete your account and all associated data within 30 days.
• Backups may retain the data for up to an additional 30 days before being purged.

As a parent or guardian, you have the following rights regarding your family's data:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about your account.
• Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information from within the app or by contacting us.
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.
• Withdrawal of consent: You may stop using the app and request data deletion at any time.
• COPPA rights: As a parent, you may review, correct, or delete your child's profile information at any time.

Kids StarQuest does not use browser cookies or web tracking technologies for advertising or analytics purposes.

The mobile app stores a secure authentication token in your device's local storage (AsyncStorage) solely to keep you signed in between sessions. This token contains no personal information and is cleared when you sign out.

The web version of the app (if accessed via browser) may use minimal session storage for the same authentication purpose only.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of Kids StarQuest after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
